Yesterday was one of the most special days in my life that I will not soon forget. I had the honor of being able to go to a 120 acre Kiger and South Steens HMA Mustang ranch! My 3 hour journey was to go see a little blue eyed, buckskin filly. When I arrived there, I immediately was glad I had brought my camera; I love photography and there were going to be a lot of opportunities for some great pics. When I saw the herd that we drove into, I knew it was going to be a special day.
Right away this special little filly started walking straight for us. She was very friendly and docile. Instead of a herd of about 20 horses running from me and the owner, they did the exact opposite and came towards us as to say, "Hey, what's up?" Within 2 minutes I had three mustang heads trying to fit in on top of my shoulders. I have never experienced something so chaotic, but at the same time so peaceful. These beautiful creatures didn't have a mean bone in their body. They actually wanted to be with us. Including mares with newborns and their sires.
I can't end this blog post without telling my readers that I fell in love yesterday with that special, dark blue-eyed, buckskin filly. She hung out with me all day. I knew it was meant to be. She will be joining our family and she will be the last horse I train to saddle and ride. An adventure I have done twice before with two PMU rescue foals. I feel alive inside as I have always enjoyed training horses and they teach me so much in return!
The filly's sire is a stunning South Steens HMA Mustang from southeast Oregon and her Dam is an Albino, blue-eyed BLM Mustang from northern California. The South Steens Mustangs are commonly mistaken for Kiger Mustangs. They are in a closely related area in southeastern Oregon and they can look almost the same. There are about 200 Kiger Mustangs roaming thousands of acres and about 300 South Steens Mustangs. So the Kiger is a rare find. These beautiful animals are a phenomenal, hardy, all around horse. The true wild horse.
I could write much more, but I would rather share my special day with some of the 250 photos that I took! I hope you enjoy them!
No Tip of the Day today! I would love to hear your comments :)
