Dysautonomia refers to a disorder of autonomic nervous system (ANS) function that generally involves failure of the sympathetic or parasympathetic components. Dysautonomia can be local, as in reflex sympathetic dystrophy, or generalized, as in pure autonomic failure. It also can occur as a primary condition or in association with degenerative neurological diseases such as Parkinson's disease. With me, it is secondary to my Mitochondrial Disease.
Dysautonomia affects me in several different ways. I have orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure), I can't regulate my constant body temperature, and gastroparesis (motility dysfunction in stomach and bowels). As everybody knows we have been experiencing a heat wave that seems to be going on FOREVER!!! Oh, sorry, I'm not too happy about it. Everyone, or almost everyone, who is living in this triple digit heat are miserable. This heat is really starting to get to me. I can't regulate my body temp, so five minutes in the direct sunlight and I feel like I'm going to keel over. It gets pretty hard, I feel miserable and I get dehydrated really easy, I have been having a lot of muscle cramping and generally feel Ucky! How's that for a scientific word? Ucky! I think that word should be in the Medical dictionary.... Oh, I am off on a tangent again. See what this heat does to me? On that note, I'm calling it quits tonight and enjoying our AC from my bed and watching football!
Tip of the Day: Even when you think you have it bad, there is always someone who has it worse. Be grateful for everything :)
