#19 ~ It's Been A While

Well it has been a while since I have written a post. I actually have two drafts started, but didn't have the wherewithal to finish them. I have had a very busy and stressful two weeks, and both of the drafts seemed whiny or even worse, negative. I found as I was writing I would get even more down, so I guess it just wasn't an enjoyable thing to finish. I love writing my blog. I do it for myself and if for some reason someone reads it and gets something out of it, it's that much better!

I don't feel like being whiny or negative; I want to be positive; so I decided to write about something that actually makes me happy to write! In 2004 I rescued two PMU (Pregnant Mare Urine) foals. Norman, an eleven month old Percheron/Thoroughbred Cross and Scout, a six month old Clydesdale/Belgian cross. I spent two years of training basic ground manners with both of them and then when Norman was 2 1/2,  I brought him up to Monty Roberts' Flag Is Up Farm in Buellton. Monty was, and still is the original horse whisperer. When I was there, Norman spent two weeks at the ranch and was finally saddled up and taught to ride. I had a wonderful trainer Kasia Roether and a couple of crazy jockeys that trained him. Kasia and I are still good friends to this day! I went up there everyday to watch them and to learn everything I could. Within the two weeks I got to ride Norman around the race track at a lope, not at a gallup mind you, but it is still one of the most memorable moments in my life. I actually got hired at Flag Is Up Farm exercising the recovering injured race horses!

Well I trained Scout to saddle up on my own after learning everything I could, and I still to this day I use Monty's concepts of Join-Up and gentling. Now, fast-forward to 2017 and I find myself with two Mustang filly's to gentle and get them under saddle. Not only has it been quite a long time since I did this, but to add to the mix I have two non domesticated horses! One, a South Steens HMA/ Northern California BLM Mustang, she's a beautiful two year old buckskin with blue eyes and a bi-color mane and tail. The other, a two year old Kiger/Sulphur Springs Mustang. She is a stunning Dun with her dorsal stripe, primitive barred legs and the Kiger bi-color mane and tail. Her genealogy goes back to what some say was the most beautiful Sulphur Springs Stud named Chance. Her sire is the well known Mestene's Pueblo, but the best thing about these two fillys are that they are best herd mates.

So as I take on this challenge again, I decided to re-educate myself and join Monty Roberts Online University. I have been a student for all of 27 days and I have watched and passed 27 lessons. I would really like to take the Mustang course from Monty, but as of right now that's a bucket list item. I love to learn! Educating myself about things that affect my life or just things I am fascinated about, I just can't get enough! I think if I was back in my early 20's I would probably be in college forever, a professional student. So tonight I close this post down with the excitement of knowing I'm going to go on my lesson page and take some tests! I hope somebody will follow the journey of these two very special Spanish Mustang fillies!

Scout: Clydesdale/Belgian Cross at 1 year of age.

Me and my beloved ginormous Norman, Percheron/Thoroughbred Cross. At the age of 5 he was 17:3 Hands!

Tip of the Day: If you're feeling like everything is falling in on you, stop, listen to what is going on in your head, and turn it around by thinking of something you are grateful for! It will almost always get you back on a positive road :)
